President Trump has told people around him that on Saturday he plans to nominate federal appeals court judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, likely ensuring a solid conservative majority on the high court for years to come, according to people familiar with the matter.
Barrett is a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and a favorite of conservatives. She was confirmed by the Senate to her current post on a 55-to-43 vote in 2017.
