ICYMI: News-Press: 2020 elections: There's an 'inactive' voter list. Are you on it?
February 27, 2020
Collier, Fla. — The News-Press reported cause for concern on voter purges in Collier County: “Nearly 60% of Collier County voters who voted in 2016 were moved to inactive. They're disproportionately younger, non-white and registered as Democrats.”
The News-Press’s reporting laid out how Collier County officials have aggressively moved voters to inactive — putting voters at risk to not receive upcoming election information and even being kicked off the voter rolls.
Juan Peñalosa, executive director of the Florida Democratic Party, called out Collier County, and the party has demanded thousands of voters be moved from inactive back to the active voter rolls.

In Collier County, nearly 60% of registered voters who last cast ballots in 2016 have been moved to the inactive list, and they're disproportionately younger, non-white and registered as Democrats, a USA TODAY Network - Florida investigation found.
[...]
The county has 241,619 registered voters, and 36,255 —or 15% — are currently listed as inactive.

The Florida Democratic Party sent a letter to Collier elections officials in August demanding that they place 22,547 inactive voters back on the active list because they had not changed addresses. They did not.
Juan Peñalosa, executive director of the Florida Democratic Party, said Collier County is violating the spirit, if not the letter, of the state's rules on voter list checks.
“They go over the top," Peñalosa said. "They're kind of double-dipping to remove voters. And the two (methods outlined in Florida law) they choose to use are the ones that are most onerous to people of color and young voters and voters that tend to be Democrats." [The News-Press, 2/25]
